New Jersey’s bill that would lower magazine capacity from 15 to 10 rounds in the Garden State has passed the State Assembly panel and now moves on to the Assembly floor for a vote.
The bill is expected to pass both the Assembly and State Senate due in part to back room deals made well before the bill was even in the legislature. Senate leadership agreed to support the bill and anti-gunners agreed to pass a bill that would allow NJ gun owners to stop for gas or to use the restroom on their way home from the range (which you can already legally do in almost every state).
Some of the most interesting testimony at the hearing came from a 9 year old competitive shooter whose talent is already attracting sponsorship deals. According to NJ.com,
But the room fell silent during the testimony from 9-year-old Shyanne Roberts, a fourth -grade pupil from Franklin Township in Gloucester County who participates in shooting competitions.
Roberts — whose was accompanied by her father, Dan, a gun rights activist — said a Glock she owns, along with a custom-built AR-15 she’s expected to receive soon from a sponsor, would be made “worthless” under the bill because they have 15-round magazines.

The former Port Authority official who personally oversaw the lane closings at the George Washington Bridge, central to the scandal now swirling around Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, said on Friday that “evidence exists” that the governor knew about the closings when they were happening.
A lawyer for the former official, David Wildstein, wrote a letter describing the move to shut the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.
During his news conference, Mr. Christie specifically said he had no knowledge that traffic lanes leading to the bridge had been closed until after they were reopened. “I had no knowledge of this — of the planning, the execution or anything about it — and that I first found out about it after it was over,” he said. “And even then, what I was told was that it was a traffic study.”

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s office assailed MSNBC on Saturday for what it called a “gleeful assault” on the Republican in the wake of the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal, Elizabeth Titus and I report on the homepage:
The attack came after a Democratic New Jersey mayor leveled new claims of political payback on MSNBC’s “Up with Steve Kornacki,” accusing the Christie administration of withholding hurricane relief funds in a dispute over the pace of a redevelopment project in her city.
Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak denied those allegations in an initial statement to the network. Another spokesman for Christie — a prospective 2016 presidential candidate — followed up with a lengthy statement pushing back against both MSNBC and the mayor, Hoboken’s Dawn Zimmer.
“MSNBC is a partisan network that has been openly hostile to Governor Christie and almost gleeful in their efforts attacking him, even taking the unprecedented step of producing and airing a nearly three-minute attack ad against him this week,” said the spokesman, Colin Reed, in a statement, referring to a spot aired by host Lawrence O’Donnell last week.
“The Governor and Mayor Zimmer have had a productive relationship, with Mayor Zimmer even recently saying she’s ‘very glad’ he’s been our Governor,” Reed said. “It’s very clear partisan politics are at play here as Democratic mayors with a political axe to grind come out of the woodwork and try to get their faces on television.”

Camden, New Jersey dumped its unionized police force last spring, unable to afford the lucrative union contract the city was stuck with, and instead contracted for police services with the nonunion county force. Crime promptly dropped. Ed Krayewski reports for Reason:
The city has been run exclusively by Democrats for several generations, and some local leaders openly worried that Camden, which already had the highest crime rate per capita last year, would get worse. But it hasn’t. In fact, crime’s gone down, as Fox News Latino reports:
The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting edge technology such as ShotSpotter rooftop monitors. The initiative has already gotten results, according to city leaders.
Over the summer months this year, the murder rate fell by 22 percent and crime overall was down 15 percent, according to data provided by Camden County officials.

Story of waitress stiffed for being gay a ‘fraud,’ diners say
That was how a New Jersey man described the story of a waitress who became a cause celebre among gay activists and their gullible media allies when she claimed to have been stiffed for a tip by customers who don’t approve of her being gay.
And he’s got the paperwork to back it up
According to NBC4 in New York, the couple that dined at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., has come forward with a receipt and credit card bill proving they not only didn’t leave a note saying they didn’t agree with her lifestyle, they’d left the standard 20 percent tip for the meal.
The story of waitress Dayna Morales has made national news since she posted a receipt on her Facebook page in mid-November showing a receipt from one of her customers saying, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because do not agree with your lifestyle.”
The interview request came flooding in – and so did the donations. According to NBC4, sympathizers from around the world sent money to Morales, business boomed at the bistro, and patrons even turned up at the restaurant to drop off cash even without eating a meal.

Given this, I understand why Democrats think that New Jersey governor Chris Christie should be a leading contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. But why would any Republican see a typical political operative like Christie as presidential material?
With the information we have in front of us today, there is every reason to believe that 2016 will be a year of opportunity for Republicans to run a serious and exciting reform-minded candidate – a candidate who is ready and able to provide the kind of leadership it will take to breathe life back into our faltering nation.
The Obama presidency is exuding incompetence and unraveling on all fronts.
Each day we are greeted with new news about the crashing of the ill-conceived and misguided Affordable Care Act – ObamaCare.
Looking at current economic realities at home and national security realities abroad, little good news appears evident and there isn’t much reason to expect any big positive surprises.
The American public is waking up to the fact that they elected, now twice, a president who is long on rhetoric and way short on delivery, and they are getting tired of it.
As things continue in this vein, by 2016, the American people will be ready for some real hope and change. The door will be open for a Republican candidate who is ready to take on the real challenges facing us, and offer solutions like across-the-board reform of entitlements, real tax reform, real cuts in superfluous government spending and reassertion of a strong and clear America in the international arena.
