Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) announced a budget deal Tuesday evening that would call for about $1 trillion in federal spending in 2014 while replacing some sequestration cuts.
The deal replaces $63 billion in sequester cuts over two years and trims an additional $23 billion in long-term deficits.
The agreement falls far short of the grand budget bargain Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and President Obama once envisioned. But if passed, it will bring a measure of fiscal peace to the capital for the first time since Republicans took control of the House in 2010.
“This deal doesn’t solve all of our problems, but I think it is an important step to heal some of the wounds here in Congress,” Murray said in a joint press conference with Ryan at the Capitol.
Ryan, the architect of House Republican budget proposals in recent years, called the agreement “a step in the right direction” and defended the deal as consistent with conservative principles. He noted that it reduced the deficit by $23 billion without raising taxes and said it was the first budget agreement with divided government in Washington since 1986.
“In divided government, you can’t always get what you want,” Ryan said.
The bill, set for a House vote this week, would set overall discretionary spending for the current fiscal year at $1.012 trillion. That is about halfway between the Senate budget level of $1.058 trillion and the House budget level of $967 billion.

Congressional Republicans are considering various options to curb President Obama’s use of executive powers, which they say are excessive.
GOP officials have long claimed that the president has violated the law and the Constitution through administrative actions on issues ranging from immigration to nominations to the U.S. military involvement in Libya.
But the president’s recent move to change ObamaCare through an administrative fix has sparked a new round of discussions within the conservative base and Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) last week said he was “highly skeptical” Obama could find a fix for the cancellation of health insurance plans that was both “legal and effective.”
“I just don’t see, within the law, their ability to do that,” said the Speaker.
An hour later, Obama was outlining such a change to reporters at the White House.
House Republicans passed a bill that would allow people to keep their health plan. Despite a veto threat, 39 Democrats backed the legislation written by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.).
“I know there’s a lot of discussion about the validity of the president just unilaterally changing the law. … There are a lot of us that are very concerned about it,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said in an interview with The Hill.

President Barack Obama has turned down an offer from House Republicans to raise the debt ceiling and allow the federal government to continue borrowing money after it reaches the so-called debt ceiling next week.
After a 90-minute meeting at the White House, Obama and House Republicans issued statements explaining that they had failed to reach agreement.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — House Speaker John Boehner will lay out a debt ceiling increase proposal as House Republicans meet with President Barack Obama at the White House Thursday.
Boehner is calling on Obama to negotiate the reopening of the federal government in an effort to go forward with the debt ceiling proposal.
“It’s time for leadership,” Boehner said. “It’s time for these negotiations and this conversation to begin.”
GOP aides tell CBS News that Boehner will present a “clean” bill to Obama that is free of any policy conditions which would raise the borrowing limit for six weeks to allow for more negotiations.
“I don’t want to put anything on the table, I don’t want to take anything off the table,” Boehner said about negotiating with the president.

To All Military Families:
I have never personally served in the military, however, on behalf of the American People, I am sorry for the foolishness of the Obama administration and the DOD. The way the DOD is handling our men and women in the Armed Services especially those who are fallen is disgraceful. Please watch the following video and let me know what you think.

A guide leading a tour group caught inside Yellowstone National Park when Senate President Harry Reid rejected compromise efforts from the U.S. House on a funding plan and the parts of the federal government closed down a week ago said the National Park Service used “Gestapo tactics” on the visitors.
Gordon Hodgson spoke in a telephone interview with the Livinston, Mont., Enterprise about the 41 tourists he took into the nation’s first national park, in the northwest corner of Wyoming, on a trip scheduled before the shutdown.
